Jake in the Box – Special Guests on Saturday at 9pm

A weekend, in sing-around format, of traditional, comic and contemporary songs, and the occasional story or poem. Special guest appearances and music sessions in the downstairs bar. Accompanied by fine ales from Marstons and the local Gun Dog Ales brewery, and with food from the Wild View caterers. All set at the wonderful venue which is Banbury Cricket Club. Outdoor camping available (no electric hook-up), and plenty of B&B accommodation in Banbury.
Alongside the running of the Grand National, there will be hobby horses. Some may be racing, some looking elegant, some larking about.

Thrup’nny Bits are a three voice unaccompanied harmony group singing traditional and contemporary folk songs, some music hall material, with some Early Music and humorous songs for good measure. Many of their songs encourage (even require) audience participation! Barbara and Gareth Wyatt, and Des Patalong come from Warwickshire and Coventry and are well known on the local folk scene.

The Songs of Jake Thackray performed by Jake in the Box. Paul Kearns and Ron Middleton celebrate the work of this outstanding musician, songwriter and sadly missed troubadour. “Perfectly capturing the wry, anarchic humour of Thackray’s songs, these talented musicians are committed to reproducing the authentic Jake Thackray sound with beautiful acoustic guitar from Paul and Ron’s own dry, anarchic take on the songs that made Jake Thackray so popular.”

Mark is an Oxfordshire based singer-songwriter whose thought provoking songs have made people sit up and take notice wherever he has played. He draws from his own life experiences and from what is happening in the world around him and puts his thoughts into his own style which has its roots in Americana and Modern Folk music. He runs the successful Wychwood Folk Club, showcasing an eclectic mix of Folk, Roots, Acoustic and Americana Music.

About The Friends of the Horton

The Friends are a charitable group who not only run the shop at the Horton General Hospital in Banbury, but also a book service for the patients.
After liaising with the nurses and doctors at the hospital, the monies they raise every year, or receive in donations, is spent on purchasing items identified, often of quite low cost, but very useful. (Such as commodes, variable height sinks, maternity equipment, and even a mural for the childrens ward.)
Not only will all profits from this event will be donated to The Friends Of The Horton, but all monies from Supporter and Sponsor Tickets.
